Congratulations, you kept your landscaping lush and green all through summer! Now it’s time to adorn your lawn with festive fall flair. Consider these fall landscaping ideas from Belclaire Homes.
Think native flowers and plants. We recommend chrysanthemums (aka mums) and boxwoods, both do well in cooler temps and require little watering. Mums are quintessential for fall landscaping, their rich, deep colors are perfect for kicking off the season. Arrange them in simple groupings around your lawn or front porch. Add in some asters, their purple hue is the perfect pop of color to the golds and burgundy of mums and they make a great border plant.
Use pumpkins! You can’t go wrong with pumpkins. Pumpkins are the perfect fall landscaping décor. Pumpkins and gourds come in various shapes, sizes, patterns and more colors than you can imagine. Varieties such as ‘Fairytale’ offer a dusty, antique shade of orange and are gorgeous when paired with blue ‘Jarrahdale’ and cute white ‘Baby Boo’. Pumpkins and gourds can be grouped, stacked, or added into pots.
With so many varieties it might be hard not to go overboard but don’t worry there’s no such thing as too many pumpkins. Here are some great tips for incorporating pumpkins into your garden.
Add texture. Texture will create visual interest and breaks up the colors from the flowers and pumpkins. You can add texture to your fall landscaping with ornamental grasses like feather reed grass, Hameln fountain grass or switchgrass. Ferns are another great textural addition. Holly fern pairs perfectly with pumpkins!
Use props. Don’t be afraid to use a few props. Your kid’s radio flyer wagon would look charming with a few bales of straw and pumpkins. Hang fall foliage garland with string lights around your front door. Bring out the old wooden ladder (that you’ve been meaning to throw away) and decorate it with mums and pumpkins. Freshen up your outdoor bench with a few burlap pillows and bring out your scarecrow (or make one) to welcome guests. Nothing says fall like a decked-out front porch!
Grab your Belclaire Homes neighbor, a glass of wine and s’mores ingredients and share some ideas around the fire pit. Let everyone fall in love with your curb appeal. Get out there and have some fun with your fall landscaping.
