March is spring cleaning month! This rite of passage takes place in many homes every year. Families everywhere take a weekend, and sometimes longer, to clean up and clean out, from top to bottom. It’s also an opportunity to take a look around the house and decide if the items you are living with bring you joy, are necessary and if they are in good condition. Belclaire wants to make sure everyone has the easiest tips and tools to keep their homes sparkling and organized! Here are five of Belclaire’s tips on how to spring clean your home:
1. Restock your cleaning supplies: Start by making sure you have all the supplies you need. In addition to the basics, Martha Stewart recommends a microfiber mop because it’s washable and works well on wood, linoleum, laminate, marble, stone, and ceramic tile.
2. Go room by room: It’s important to take this process one room at a time. Trying to do everything at once can be overwhelming. Breaking down the process also keeps you focused on what’s in front of you.
3. Three Piles: A good closet and drawer clean-out is an integral part of the spring cleaning process. Are the items there “bringing you joy”? Make that determination by dividing those items into three piles. One pile is items you want to keep: things you use at least once a week and know you need in your day-to-day life. The next is donate: these are things that may no longer have a purpose for you but that are not damaged and could be of use to someone else. And the last pile is throw away: these are things that don’t work anymore, are cluttering or are out-of-date. Again, breaking down the process into steps like this will make spring cleaning so much more efficient!
4. Appliances: Cleaning your kitchen appliances is a big part of this process. Freshen up your dishwasher and washing machine with a cycle that includes two cups of white vinegar and a hot cycle. Deep clean your coffee maker using denture tabs. Get a stainless steel spray for your refrigerator and stovetop.
5. Tackle forgotten items: This is the perfect time to spruce up items you often don’t think about. Use a lint brush on your lamp shades and disinfect your trash can. Here’s a great tip for cleaning your ceiling fans: put a sheet or drop cloth on the floor first to keep from making an even bigger mess!
Spring cleaning doesn’t have to be a chore! Using these cleaning tips will keep your home spring fresh all year ‘round! Happy spring cleaning!
